Things to Do Alone in Konstanz

Konstanz sits on Lake Constance, but in November the lake does not run on summer rules. The regular passenger boats stopped for the year in October, and what remains is the Konstanz to Meersburg ferry, a few special sailings and a good set of indoor places. This page is built around those.

Checked 2026-11-01 against official sites.

The lake in November: one ferry, a few special sailings

The Konstanz to Meersburg ferry leaves from the Konstanz harbour at Staad and runs "around the clock, 365 days a year", according to the operator, Stadtwerke Konstanz. Since 5 October 2026 it has used a winter timetable: on weekdays it sails every 15 minutes from 6 to 9 and from 15 to 19, every 20 minutes between 9 and 15, every 30 minutes in the evening and hourly at night. On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays it sails every 20 minutes from 9 to 19 (ferry timetable, October 2026 notice).

The fare page lists an adult on foot at EUR 4.30 single and EUR 8.10 return, with tickets sold at the counter by day and on board at night (ferry fares). A short crossing with a window seat is a gentle first solo outing, and the same notice says the "Mein-Konstanz" app carries the timetable. Nobody on a ferry expects you to chat.

What about the other boats? The Bodensee-Schiffsbetriebe (BSB) timetable for 2026 lists its low-season service on the Konstanz to Bregenz and Konstanz to Überlingen lines for 3 April to 13 May and 14 September to 18 October, so there is no regular line service in November (BSB timetable 2026, PDF). BSB's autumn and winter page names these instead: boats to the Christmas Garden on Mainau from 19 November 2026 to 9 January 2027, and Advent trips from Konstanz from 28 November to 20 December 2026 (BSB, autumn and winter). The BSB site says the Deutschland-Ticket is not valid on its boats (BSB, timetable). The tourism board adds that the Wasserbus to the old town runs only from April to the end of October (Konstanz Tourismus, getting around).

Zebra Kino: a volunteer-run cinema

The Zebra Kino has run since 1984 under the motto "Andere Filme anders zeigen" (show other films in other ways). The tourism board describes director visits, short films and festivals, and it says the cinema is run by volunteers (Konstanz Tourismus, stage and cinema). The cinema's price page lists a regular ticket at EUR 9 and a reduced one at EUR 7, and on Mondays at the evening box office you pay what you can, between EUR 2 and EUR 9 (Zebra Kino, prices).

It is in the Fürstenberg district at Joseph-Belli-Weg 5, on the first floor with no lift. Buses 2, 3 and 12 stop at Fürstenberg, and the Seehas train stops at Konstanz-Fürstenberg, while the regional express trains do not (Zebra Kino, directions). The cinema's home page invites people who want to join the volunteers to a get-to-know-you meeting at the cinema; the next date is listed on the home page (Zebra Kino). That is a rare ready-made way to meet people over a shared interest. For the general method, see going to the cinema alone.

The CineStar in the Lago shopping centre is the multiplex option. The tourism board says it shows original-language films and broadcasts from the Met Opera.

Rosgartenmuseum: a free first Sunday and a Friday lounge

The Rosgartenmuseum at Rosgartenstraße 3 to 5 is open Tuesday to Friday 10 to 18 and Saturday, Sunday and holidays 10 to 17, and it is closed on Monday. Admission is free on the first Sunday of each month. The permanent collection costs EUR 5, the current special exhibition "Die Mosbruggers. Eine Künstlerfamilie am Bodensee" EUR 7. The museum has a café and a free audio guide in German, English and French (Rosgartenmuseum, visit, Konstanz Tourismus, museums).

Once a month the museum also holds the Rosgarten\*Lounge on a Friday evening, an open format with a theme, music and cocktails. Entry is free during the lounge, the culture talks of about 15 minutes are optional, and you can come and go as you like (Rosgarten\*Lounge). Check the museum's calendar for the next date. A mingling evening with an exit built in is an easy place to try talking to someone. See how to visit a museum alone for more.

Other exhibitions listed by the tourism board right now: "Lebensfreude und Rausch. Der Tanz in der Kunst" at the Städtische Wessenberg-Galerie, "Winzlinge ganz groß" at the Bodensee-Naturmuseum, and "Schlacht bei Aussig 1426-2026" at the Hus-Museum (Konstanz Tourismus, events).

Between the cathedral and the harbour

The Münster at Münsterplatz 1 is a cathedral with a crypt, a rotunda and a cloister, and its 78-metre tower gives a view of the town, the lake and the mountains. The tourism board says the tower is regularly open from spring to October, so in November it is the view you skip (Münster, Münsterturm).

North of the Münster is the Niederburg, the oldest district, described as lanes with frescoes, patrician houses and wine taverns. It is a walk with no schedule (Niederburg).

At the harbour stands the Konzil, a granary built in 1388 to 1391. The conclave that elected Pope Martin V met on its first floor from 8 to 11 November 1417, and today it is an event house and restaurant (Konzil). A table for one in a hall of that age is a solo dinner with some history. The harbour figure Imperia is a 9-metre, 18-tonne statue by Peter Lenk (Imperia).

Cross a border on foot

At Klein Venedig, the Kunstgrenze is a line of 22 stainless-steel sculptures of tarot trumps. They stand half in Germany and half in Switzerland, on the border with Kreuzlingen, and have been there since 2007 (Kunstgrenze). Walking along them takes little time and needs no plan.

Christmas market and Christmas ship

The Konstanz Christmas market runs from 26 November to 23 December 2026. The tourism board describes about 150 huts and a Christmas ship in the harbour (Konstanz Tourismus, top events). A weekday afternoon is a calmer way to see it alone.

First solo outings

  1. Easy: the Meersburg ferry. Cross, look around, come back on the next sailing. Read first solo trip tips if you want a plan.
  2. Medium: the first Sunday of the month at the Rosgartenmuseum. Free entry on the first Sunday of the month, with the museum café afterwards.
  3. Bolder: the Zebra Kino volunteer get-together. A cinema run by volunteers, where the evening has a purpose beyond the film.
