Split in November is a different city from the summer one: the beach season is over, but the museums, the cinematheque and the concert halls are all open, and the city's markets keep trading. Going alone suits this month, because you choose each day's plan from what is actually on. Everything below was checked on official pages on 2026-11-01.
What is open, and what is not
The beach season is over, so plan around indoor places, year-round transport and the events the city lists for November.
- Winter hours listed: the Archaeological Museum and the Salona site in Solin.
- Hours listed with no seasonal change: the Gallery of Fine Arts and the Mestrovic Gallery.
- Year-round transport: the Jadrolinija ferry line to Supetar, which publishes a schedule for 1 October to 31 December.
- Outdoors: the Riva promenade and the Marjan hill, both described by the tourist board without seasonal limits.
- Seasonal: the tourist clinics that the county runs for visitors operate from 1 June to 30 September 2026 only, so they are not open now (Visit Split, Safety First).
The Fish market and the Pazar
The Fish market is described by the tourist board as 120 years old, and the main green market, the Pazar, as an "explosion of colours, odours and flavours" (Split in 1 day). Both are easy places to go alone: you walk up, look, taste and move on. For eating alone more broadly, read how to eat alone in public.
Museums, with the hours that matter
Three museums publish clear opening times, which makes them easy to slot into a solo day.
- Archaeological Museum, Zrinsko-Frankopanska 25. From 1 October to 31 May it is open Monday to Friday 9:00 to 14:00 and 15:00 to 20:00, and Saturday 9:00 to 14:00. It is closed on Sundays and holidays (Archaeological Museum). The late weekday slot suits an after-lunch visit.
- Salona in Solin is the museum's out-of-town site, and the same page lists it as open daily 9:00 to 18:00 from 1 October to 31 May, except on holidays. That makes it a half-day trip with a clear closing time.
- Gallery of Fine Arts, Ulica kralja Tomislava 15. Tuesday to Friday 10:00 to 18:00, Saturday and Sunday 10:00 to 14:00, closed Mondays and holidays. An adult ticket is 5 EUR for the collections or for a temporary exhibition (Gallery of Fine Arts). The home page lists "Photographic Asides" by Zrinka Buljevic from 29 October to 29 November 2026 (galum.hr).
- Mestrovic Gallery and Kastilac, on Setaliste Ivana Mestrovica. The site lists Tuesday to Sunday 8:00 to 18:00, closed Mondays and public holidays, with the last entry 30 minutes before closing. One ticket covers both buildings, at 12 EUR for adults (Mestrovic Museums).
The tourist board also keeps a November exhibitions list, including "The Battle of Vis" at the Croatian Maritime Museum until 29 November (Visit Split exhibitions). The general advice in how to visit a museum alone applies to all of them.
Evenings: a film, a concert, an opera seat
When the sun sets early, the programme moves indoors.
Cinematheque Zlatna vrata, Dioklecijanova 7, inside the old town, shows a daily programme, listed on its site (Zlatna vrata); the address comes from the Visit Split cinemas list. See going to the cinema alone for how to do it.
Croatian Home Split, Toncicova 1, lists concerts at 8 p.m. through November, among them the Eivind Aarset Quartet on 28 November (Visit Split). A concert seat is one of the simplest solo tickets there is; see going to a concert alone.
Croatian National Theatre, Trg Gaje Bulata 1. Its 2026/27 season runs to June 2027 and includes opera and ballet as well as drama (in Croatian) (Visit Split). For a first visit without Croatian, opera and ballet are the sensible choice.
Walk up, then sail out
Marjan. The tourist board describes Marjan as a park-forest that you climb to directly from the Riva, with lookouts over the city and islands and natural paths (Visit Split, Marjan). Check the park authority before you go for current rules (Marjan Forest Park).
The Riva and the old town. The Riva is described as the city's "living room", lined with cafes; the palace behind it looks like a maze but the tourist board calls it easy to navigate, with the Peristyle and the cathedral inside it (The Riva, Diocletian Palace, Cathedral of St Domnius).
Supetar on Brac. Jadrolinija's line 631 takes 50 minutes, and a ticket is valid for any departure on the date printed. From 1 October to 31 December the schedule lists departures from Split at 07:30, 09:00, 11:00, 12:30, 14:15, 16:30 and later, and returns from Supetar at 09:00, 10:30, 12:30, 14:30, 15:30, 18:00 and later; the 05:00 sailings do not run on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 1 November (line 631, schedule PDF). The page says the island's highest peak, Vidova Gora at 780 m, offers views of the other islands. The Rogac line to Solta takes 60 minutes and is described as ideal for a one-day trip (line 636). The schedule is subject to change.
House rules in the old town
The Split Public Order Act sets fines of 300 euros for drinking alcohol in public areas in zone A, which covers the area inside the 17th-century ramparts, for eating or drinking in public where it leaves dirty traces, and for climbing or sitting on monuments (Visit Split).
