Louisville is easy to do alone along one street and one river. West Main Street holds a row of museums that discount each other's tickets, the Speed Art Museum runs a cinema where nobody asks who you came with, and Waterfront Park runs along the Ohio River to the Big Four Bridge. This guide builds a November plan from those three, then adds a cemetery, a historic house and a performing arts centre.

West Main Street: three museums, one stub
Frazier Kentucky History Museum. At 829 West Main Street. Hours are Monday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. General admission is $16, seniors $14 and students with ID $12, and SNAP recipients are admitted at no charge. The museum says hours can change, and it is closed on Thanksgiving, November 26. It also notes that a ticket stub earns $1 off at other Museum Row on Main attractions, which is a small reason to visit two in a day (Frazier: plan your visit). The Frazier also runs bourbon tastings and tours, but you can skip them and still see the exhibitions.
Muhammad Ali Center. Open Wednesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with last entry at 4:15 p.m., and closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. The Center lists closures on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (Muhammad Ali Center: hours).
Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory. Open Monday to Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Listed adult admission is $24, seniors $23 and children 6 to 12 $16 (Louisville Slugger Museum).
If you want a first day with nothing to book, the Frazier on a Saturday morning followed by the Ali Center is the easiest pairing, since both are open then. For tips on museum visits alone, see how to visit a museum alone.
A cinema inside an art museum
Speed Cinema is in the Speed Art Museum at 2035 S 3rd Street, with its entrance on the south side of the museum. Tickets are $12, or $8 for Speed members, and free for students with valid ID. The Speed says doors open 30 minutes before the screening, seating is first-come, first-served, and seats cannot be saved for additional guests, which suits one person well. The film calendar on the same page lists each screening with its time and ticket link (Speed Art Museum: plan your visit). A film is a good first outing because the lights go down and nobody expects conversation. See also how to go to the cinema alone.
The river and the bridge
Waterfront Park is a non-profit public park along the Ohio River. Its site describes the Big Four Bridge as the link between the park and Jeffersonville, Indiana, and as a good place to watch the sunset. The park lists the Belle of Louisville boat docks among its features a free recurring history lecture series called Riverfront Reflections (next listed on December 13 and January 10, 2 to 3 p.m.), and a Big Four Bridge lighting schedule for November (Waterfront Park). The Riverfront Reflections lecture is a ready-made way to be around people without having to talk.
Tuesday to Saturday at Locust Grove
Historic Locust Grove is a c.1792 Georgian mansion. Guided house tours run Tuesday to Saturday at 10:30 a.m., 12 p.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. for $12 for adults and $10 for seniors, generally 60 to 90 minutes long, with an optional 12-minute film first. The grounds are open daily from dawn to dusk, and the visitor center and exhibit are open Tuesday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., so the grounds are an easy first visit on a day without a tour (Locust Grove: plan your visit, Locust Grove: home).
A cemetery walk and a forest
Cave Hill Cemetery is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. every day, weather permitting. Its events page lists registered guided tours with a docent, both on foot and by golf cart, with a sign-up link for each. It advises that the Baxter and Broadway entrance is under construction and points visitors to the Grinstead Drive entrance, which is fully accessible, and it offers a free app for navigation (Cave Hill: events, Cave Hill: rules, Cave Hill: home). A guided tour is an easy way to spend a morning with people without having to start a conversation.
Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest is in Clermont, outside the city. It is open daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., but from November 1 it closes at 5 p.m. Its events list includes a First Sunday Nature Hike, an event series that suits one person well (Bernheim). Check the visitor information on the site for how to get there.
An evening at the Kentucky Center
Kentucky Performing Arts runs The Kentucky Center at 501 West Main Street, the Brown Theatre at 315 West Broadway and Old Forester's Paristown Hall at 724 Brent Street. Its events page lists orchestra, theatre and concert listings, and its FAQ says there is no formal dress code and recommends dressing for the type of show (Kentucky Performing Arts: events). One seat is simple to book, and a seat facing the stage needs no conversation.
Getting around, and what is closed
TARC lists a $2.25 single ride, paid in cash with exact change and no transfer, or on MyTARC mobile or card with a two-hour transfer. A 24-hour pass is $5 (TARC: fare structure). The Louisville Free Public Library says its Main Library is closed for renovations, so use a branch or the Library Computer Center instead (LFPL).
First solo outings
- Easy: a film at Speed Cinema. Buy one $12 ticket, arrive when doors open and sit anywhere.
- Middle: Saturday on West Main. Visit the Frazier, keep the stub and walk to the Ali Center the same day.
- Bold: a guided morning and an evening seat. Register for a docent-led tour at Cave Hill, then book one seat at The Kentucky Center.
Solo Era for iPhone
Visit a public sustainability fair
Solo Era has an everyday mission at level 3: "Visit a public sustainability fair." The prompt is to explore three stalls and ask one practical question about a change you could make at home. Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest and Waterfront Park both publish public event calendars; check them, or the city's other listings, for a fair with stalls. Free to download. A subscription is required to start missions. Prices and any free trial are shown in the app and depend on the offer and eligibility.
Where next
Heading north, Indianapolis plans its week by museum closing days, while Lexington, Kentucky is built around horse country. A larger music-and-history city is Nashville. Browse the cities hub, the solo travel guide, or read how to eat alone in public.
