Singapore is a good city to do alone because it keeps long hours. Hawker centres are built for eating among strangers, big parks and gardens stay open late or around the clock, and the walks run from a city hill to a rainforest canopy. Plan your day by the clock and you can start with one plate of food and end under the lights of the Supertrees.

Start with a plate at a hawker centre
Singapore's hawker culture was inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity on 16 December 2020. The National Environment Agency (NEA) says hawker centres have become "community dining rooms" where people from all walks of life bond over food (NEA: Hawker Culture). That matters if you are nervous about eating alone: a room made for shared tables is a gentle place to start. For the wider habit, see how to eat alone in public.
NEA's 2020 announcement of the inscription also asks diners to help keep hawker centres clean by returning used crockery and trays and keeping tables clean (NEA news release). Treat that as a good habit and watch what other diners do.
Lau Pa Sat (Raffles Place). A festival-market hawker centre at 18 Raffles Quay, with more than 80 stalls according to its own site. The site lists the address as 24 hours, and the nearest MRT stops include Downtown, Raffles Place, Shenton Way and Telok Ayer. After dark, Satay Street on Boon Tat Street has 9 satay carts: weekdays 7pm to 3am, weekends 3pm to 3am. Live music is listed Friday to Sunday, 7.30pm to 9.30pm (Lau Pa Sat, Satay Street, Our Hawkers).
Green space that stays open late
Singapore's parks board lists many parks as open 24 hours, and some run to midnight, which makes an evening walk alone easy to plan (NParks: parks).
- Singapore Botanic Gardens (Tanglin). Singapore's first UNESCO World Heritage Site, 82 hectares with over 10,000 plant species (Botanic Gardens: about). The gardens are free for everyone every day and open 5am to midnight. Only the National Orchid Garden charges, open 8.30am to 7pm with last ticket sales and entry at 6pm (Botanic Gardens: general info). The Gardens' site also lists adult programmes; most need pre-registration, so check a month ahead (Botanic Gardens).
- Fort Canning Park (Civic District). A 22-hectare hilltop park open 24 hours. NParks calls it home to Singapore's most diverse spice garden and lists the Fort Gate (a remnant of the colonial hilltop fort), the Fort Canning Heritage Gallery, the ASEAN Sculpture Garden and nine historical gardens (NParks: Fort Canning Park).
- Supertree Grove, Gardens by the Bay (Marina Bay). Free to enter, open daily 5am to 2am, with the Supertree lights switched off at 11.30pm. Twelve of the Gardens' 18 Supertrees stand here, up to 50 metres tall (Gardens by the Bay: Supertree Grove). The free Garden Rhapsody light and music show runs daily at 7.45pm and 8.45pm, with an extra 9.35pm show from 27 November to 11 December 2026 and from 31 December 2026 to 3 January 2027, and extra shows at 7.10pm and 9.35pm from 23 to 27 December 2026 (Garden Rhapsody). Watching it in a crowd of strangers is about the easiest evening alone you can have.
Friday night with art
Two museums in the Civic District make a calm solo afternoon or evening.
- Asian Civilisations Museum (Empress Place). In the Empress Place Building by the Singapore River. Open daily 10am to 7pm, and until 9pm on Fridays; admission to galleries ends 30 minutes before closing (ACM: plan your visit). The Friday hours give you a reason to go after work or a day outdoors.
- National Gallery Singapore (St Andrew's Road). Open daily 10am to 7pm, with admission ending 30 minutes before closing. The Gallery lists a Calm Room on level B1 of the City Hall Wing for visitors who feel over-stimulated, and lockers on B1. The UOB Southeast Asia Gallery is temporarily closed and reopens in late 2027, with works from the National Collection shown elsewhere in the building (National Gallery Singapore).

Walk the Southern Ridges
The Southern Ridges link hill parks along Singapore's south coast. Pick the section that suits your energy.
- Telok Blangah Hill Park. Open 24 hours, except the Earth Trail, which you should not enter after 7pm. It includes Henderson Waves, which NParks calls the tallest pedestrian bridge in Singapore at 274 metres long (NParks: Telok Blangah Hill Park).
- Mount Faber Park. Open 24 hours, with viewing spots over the southern coastline and the Southern Islands. A footpath section of Mount Faber Loop has been closed for maintenance since 14 January 2025, so follow the alternative route between Henderson Waves and Mount Faber Peak (Cable Car Station) on NParks' map (NParks: Mount Faber Park).
- HortPark. Open 6am to 11pm, with visitor services hours that differ on weekends. Nearby MRT stations include HarbourFront, Labrador Park, Commonwealth and Queenstown (NParks: HortPark).
A bolder day: rainforest and wetland
- MacRitchie TreeTop Walk (Central Catchment Nature Reserve). A 25-metre-high suspension bridge connecting the two highest points in MacRitchie. NParks describes the trail as about 7 km, 3 to 4 hours, and moderate to difficult. It is not suitable for people with a fear of heights. The TreeTop Walk is closed on Mondays except public holidays, open Tuesday to Friday 9am to 5pm, and on weekends and public holidays 8.30am to 5pm; last entry is 4.45pm. The wider reserve is open 7am to 7pm, and NParks asks you to stay on designated trails because closed areas are protected by law (NParks: Central Catchment Nature Reserve, NParks: hiking and nature walks).
- Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve (Kranji). Singapore's first ASEAN Heritage Park, 202 hectares of wetlands and mangroves that matter for migratory birds. Open 7am to 7pm, last entry 6.30pm. From Kranji MRT take bus 925 (Monday to Saturday) or 925M (Sundays and public holidays). NParks warns that some areas can flood at high tide and close (NParks: Sungei Buloh).
