In Tokyo, doing things alone is the default: single-ticket timed entry, quiet gardens and museum cafes all assume one person is a normal visitor. The real planning problem is booking, not nerves. Some places need an advance reservation (Ghibli Museum), some use timed tickets (teamLab Planets, Nezu Museum online), and many gardens and shrines you can simply walk into. This guide is sorted by pace and booking effort.
For general advice, see things to do alone in a new city; for museum etiquette alone, see alone/museum. This page does not repeat it.

- Roppongi, with the National Art Center and Mori Art Museum.
One solo day in Tokyo
- Morning: A garden such as Koishikawa Korakuen or Rikugien.
- Midday: Nezu Museum, with lunch at NEZUCAFE if you like.
- Afternoon: The National Art Center in Roppongi (not on Tuesday).
- Another day: Ghibli Museum or teamLab Planets, booked ahead.
Tips for doing Tokyo alone
- Choose one area per day. Tokyo is large, so pairing a garden or shrine with a nearby museum keeps travel time low and the day calm.
- Do the timed tickets first. Book the places that need it, then leave the remaining hours open.
- Start quiet, end busy. Mornings suit gardens and shrines; save the bigger, immersive venues for later when you want more energy around you.
- Check closed days. Several places close on a set weekday, so look before you travel across the city.
