Seattle in November is a city to plan around a roof first and the view second. The central library, Pike Place Market and the cinemas give you a warm place to be alone without a plan, two museums stay open late on the first Thursday of the month, and a ferry crosses to Bainbridge Island in about 35 minutes when you want water. This page is ordered by weather: rooms first, then shoreline.

A free seat indoors: the Central Library
The Seattle Central Library, at 1000 Fourth Avenue, is open Monday 10 to 6, Tuesday to Thursday 10 to 8, and Friday to Sunday 10 to 6. It will be closed on Veterans Day (11 November) and Thanksgiving Day (26 November). The library lists free Wi-Fi, music practice rooms, a Zine Collection, a Map Collection and the Seattle Room collections, plus a coffee cart (Seattle Public Library). It is the easiest place in the city to spend an hour with a book and nobody asking what you are doing there.

Pike Place Market, one stall at a time
Pike Place was established in 1907 and its site lists about 500 small businesses across a nine-acre historic district. The Market is open daily and closed only on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Most of it is active from 10am to 5pm. Produce and seafood start at 7am, the Crafts Market runs 11 to 4, the Farm Tables 9 to 4, the Merchant Building 9 to 7, and the Secret Garden 9:30 to 5. Some restaurants stay open until midnight or later. Vehicle access on Pike Place is limited from 10am. (Pike Place Market, home page).
If you want an early start, produce and seafood open at 7am. Pick one stall, eat there, and move on. For a plan, see how to eat alone in public.
First Thursday: two museums open late
- Burke Museum. Tuesday to Sunday 10 to 5, with last admission at 4:30pm. On the first Thursday of each month it is open 10 to 8. Closed on Mondays, 26 November, 24 and 25 December (Burke Museum).

A cinema seat for one
SIFF runs three screens that publish daily listings: SIFF Cinema Uptown, SIFF Cinema Downtown and the SIFF Film Center. Its site publishes daily showtimes for each screen (SIFF Cinema). A matinee is a good first solo screening. See cinema alone.
Glass, art and sculpture
- Chihuly Garden and Glass. Eight galleries, a Glasshouse and a Garden, self-paced, usually 1 to 2 hours, with a downloadable audio tour. Adult tickets are listed at $40 to $45. Open Sunday 10 to 5, Monday to Friday 11 to 5, Saturday 10 to 6. The site points visitors to the Seattle Center Monorail (Chihuly Garden and Glass).
- Seattle Center. Its event calendar lists festivals, performances and exhibitions on the grounds, so check the date you plan to go (Seattle Center).
- Olympic Sculpture Park, 2901 Western Avenue. Admission is free, and from 1 October to 30 April it is open daily 7am to 8pm. It looks over the Olympic Mountains and Puget Sound (Seattle Parks).
Water and wild: the waterfront and Discovery Park
- Seattle Aquarium, Pier 59. Regular hours are 9:30am to 6pm, with last entry at 5pm. The site also lists a Beach Naturalist programme (Seattle Aquarium).
- Discovery Park, Magnolia. A 560-acre natural area with two miles of protected tidal beaches, open daily 4:30am to 11pm. The Visitor Center is closed until summer 2027, and beach parking permits are not being issued meanwhile (Seattle Parks). The free summer-to-fall beach shuttle ended on 1 November 2026, so plan to walk.
- Seattle to Bainbridge Island ferry. Washington State Ferries lists a crossing time of about 35 minutes and a fall 2026 schedule from 20 September to 26 December. Check the live schedule and the vessel map before you go (Washington State Ferries, vessel map).
