Krakow rewards a solo traveller who thinks in two directions: down into cellars and mines, then up to a hilltop for the view. November adds a bonus, because Wawel Royal Castle runs "Free November" with free passes for selected exhibitions. Everything below is a self-paced visit, with no group needed.
Free November at Wawel
Wawel Royal Castle takes part in the "Free November" campaign, and its site lists how it works in 2026, the fifteenth time it has run the campaign. Collect a free pass on the day at the ticket offices (open 8:45-16:00) or online one week ahead. On Mondays, free tickets are only sold at the offices until they run out. One person may collect passes for up to five people, and the offer depends on availability and time restrictions.
- Mondays, 10:00-16:00: Royal Private Apartments, Wawel Recovered and Between the Walls.
- Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00-17:00: the State Rooms and Ottoman Turkish Tents, plus the underground sections The Lost Wawel and the Lapidarium. Temporary shows include Anna Jagiellon: All the Faces of the Queen, Bernini at Wawel from 6 November, and Vermeer's Woman with a Pearl Necklace from 27 November.
- 11 November: only some exhibitions are open, 9:00-17:00, with free passes online.

Below ground: cellars, a factory floor and salt
- Rynek Underground (Rynek Główny 1): a Museum of Krakow branch. Monday 10:00-19:00, Tuesday 10:00-15:00, Wednesday and Thursday 10:00-19:00, Friday to Sunday 10:00-20:00. Closed the second Monday of the month, and on 9, 11, 16, 17 and 18 November. Entry is free on Tuesday but cannot be booked, and tickets are limited. A normal ticket is 45 PLN, reduced 35 PLN. Last entry is 75 minutes before closing.
- Oskar Schindler's Enamel Factory (ul. Lipowa 4): Monday 10:00-15:00, Tuesday to Sunday 9:00-20:00, closed the first Tuesday of the month. Last entry is 1.5 hours before closing. Monday is a free-entry day with no advance booking and limited tickets. A normal ticket is 60 PLN, reduced 45 PLN, and an English guide is listed Tuesday to Sunday at 10:00, 12:00 and 16:00. Online buyers need an original ID. The museum is closed on 3 and 11 November.
- Wieliczka Salt Mine, Tourist Route: a guided tour of 2-3 hours and about 3.5 km, starting at the Daniłowicz Shaft, at 17-18°C underground. English is among the tour languages. Check the mine for tour times on your day (Wieliczka).

Up for the view: Kościuszko Mound
The Mound is open daily 9:00-16:30, and the ticket includes the exhibitions inside Fort 2 "Kościuszko". Normal tickets are 34 PLN and reduced 26 PLN (valid from 1 April 2026). It accepts cash and cards and honours the Kraków Tourist Card (hours, tickets). The official tourism site calls it a popular destination for walks. The Mound's site has a page on getting there by public transport, and the city operator MPK Kraków publishes timetables and notices, so check your route before you go.
Art with quiet hours
MOCAK, the contemporary art museum, is open Tuesday to Sunday 11:00-19:00 and closed Monday. On Wednesdays from 16:00 to 19:00 it has "quiet hours": no tours, workshops or events, and loud or intense works are toned down. Thursday is free for the Collection exhibitions on level -1. It is open on Wednesday 11 November (MOCAK hours, in Polish).
National Museum in Krakow: the Main Building (al. 3 Maja 1), Sukiennice, Czartoryski Museum and Arsenal are closed Monday and open Tuesday to Sunday 10:00-18:00. The museum says all permanent exhibitions are free on Tuesdays. Outside Tuesday, the permanent exhibition in the Main Building is 45 PLN and in Sukiennice 35 PLN (opening hours, prices).
Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology (ul. M. Konopnickiej 26): open daily except Monday, 10:00-18:00, with a ticket of 30 PLN regular and 20 PLN reduced that covers all exhibitions. Tuesday is free. The museum lists a cafe and a tea pavilion, and it is open on 11 November (Manggha, access and admission).
For general museum tips, see museums alone.
Kazimierz and Podgórze: three quiet museums
- Old Synagogue (ul. Szeroka 24, Kazimierz): a Museum of Krakow branch. Monday 10:00-15:00, Tuesday to Sunday 9:00-17:00, last entry 30 minutes before closing for individual visitors. Normal ticket 22 PLN, reduced 16 PLN. Monday is a free-entry day, and you can reserve a ticket in advance on free days. It is closed on 11 and 12 November (Museum of Krakow).
- Galicia Jewish Museum (ul. Dajwór 18, Kazimierz): open every day, 10:00-18:00. Adult ticket 35 PLN, senior or student 25 PLN, family 55 PLN, with online tickets. The site also lists a bookshop cafe and guided city tours (Galicia Jewish Museum).
- Cricoteka (Nadwiślańska 2-4, Podgórze): the centre for the documentation of the art of Tadeusz Kantor. Open Tuesday to Sunday, 11:00-19:00, last entry 15 minutes before closing, and closed on 11 November. It honours the Kraków Card, which lets holders buy a regular ticket at the reduced price (Cricoteka).
Going alone to a small museum like these is easy because you set the pace and nobody needs to agree on what to skip.
Evenings: weekly concerts and an All Souls jazz week
The official tourism site says the Kraków Philharmonic (ul. Zwierzyniecka 1) gives weekly symphony concerts, plus master recitals, and that the Kraków Opera (ul. Lubicz 48) presents around 200 performances in an artistic season, including classics, operettas and ballet (Kraków Travel, Philharmonic, Kraków Travel, Opera). Check the venues for the programme on your night. A single seat at a concert is one of the easiest solo evenings, since nobody expects conversation.
Around All Souls each year the Kraków All Souls "Zaduszki" Jazz Festival takes over several of these halls, and its organisers call it the oldest jazz festival in Europe. The 71st edition runs from 3 to 7 November 2026 with the theme Play It Again. The listings include a Philharmonic concert on 5 November, Ondřej Havelka and His Melody Makers at the Nowa Huta Cultural Centre on 6 November and "The Great River" at the Kraków Opera on 7 November (Kraków Travel, festival site).
Plan around the holidays
On 11 November several places run on special hours or are closed: the Schindler factory, the Rynek Underground, the Old Synagogue and Cricoteka are closed, Wawel shows only some exhibitions, and MOCAK and Manggha are open. Check each place. The city transport operator MPK Kraków lists timetable changes and notices on its home page. For the broader approach to a new place, see the new-city guide and first solo trip tips.
First solo outings
- Easy: collect a Free November pass at Wawel on a Tuesday to Sunday and visit one exhibition.
- Medium: a Wednesday afternoon in MOCAK's quiet hours (16:00-19:00), a Tuesday at Manggha, or a walk through the Old Synagogue and the Galicia Jewish Museum in Kazimierz.
- Bold: the guided Wieliczka tour in English, then Kościuszko Mound the next morning, and a seat at a Philharmonic concert in the evening.
