Interlaken in November is a different town from the summer postcard: the mountain railways are close to their season break, and what holds the days together are the boats, a funicular with a view, small museums and a calendar of low-key evenings. That suits one person well, because every item below runs on a fixed timetable and none of them needs a group.
Checked 2026-11-01. Hours and prices below come from each operator's own page.
What changes in the next five weeks
Interlaken sits between two lakes, and the operators publish their own season dates, so the month is easy to plan around:
- Harder Kulm (the funicular): end-of-season offer valid 1 to 29 November 2026.
- St. Beatus Caves: winter season 21 November 2026 to 20 March 2027.
- Lake Brienz boats: not operated in the winter months, from 7 December.
- Jungfrau Winter Pass: valid from 1 December 2026, after the Summer Pass period that ends 29 November.
Before 21 November the caves are between seasons, so confirm opening times with them before you go. Last checked 2026-11-01.
Up the Harder with lunch built into the ticket
The Harder Kulm funicular leaves from a short walk from Interlaken Ost station and takes ten minutes to reach 1,322 metres, with views to Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau and down to both lakes. The Jungfrau Railways describe a Panorama Restaurant at the top and a circular route of about an hour. Between 1 and 29 November 2026 the end-of-season offer bundles the return journey with a CHF 25 dining voucher for that restaurant: CHF 44, or CHF 34 with a Half Fare Travelcard, GA Travelcard or Swiss Travel Pass, and no advance booking (Harder Kulm, end-of-season offer).
Why it works alone: a voucher turns "eating at a restaurant by myself" into a fixed part of the ticket. If a table for one feels like a lot, how to eat alone in public covers the first minutes.
For something bolder, the Jungfraujoch at 3,454 metres lists a return ticket from CHF 129.60 via the Eiger Express gondola from Grindelwald Terminal (45 minutes from the terminal), with the Sphinx Terrace and Ice Palace at the top (Jungfraujoch). Check the live operating information the day you go.
Boats are the solo-friendly format here
The BLS Lake Cruise says its boats run all year on Lake Thun. Fairtiq and EasyRide tickets are valid on board, and the Seepass, the Half-Fare day pass, municipality day tickets and the Swiss Travel Pass are listed as valid on scheduled cruises. Lake Brienz cruises are not operated in the winter months, from 7 December (BLS Lake Cruise).
Two stops on the Lake Thun side make a self-contained day:
- St. Beatus Caves (Sundlauenen). The site calls it open all year, at a constant 8 to 10 degrees Celsius, and recommends warm clothing and good footwear. Admission with the cave museum is CHF 20 for adults, with an audio guide in German, English and French. In the winter season (21 November 2026 to 20 March 2027) the cave hours are Monday to Friday 10 to 17, Saturday 10 to 18:30 and Sunday 10 to 17. The caves also sit on the Way of St James stage Merligen to Interlaken (St. Beatus Caves).
- Vineyards on Lake Thun. The tourism board names vineyards at about 600 metres around Oberhofen, Hilterfingen, Merligen, Thun, Spiez and others, plus an educational vineyard trail in Spiez (Interlaken Tourismus).
Thun: where the evenings are
Thun is a short train ride from Interlaken, and its museums run the best solo formats on this list.
- Kunstmuseum Thun (Thunerhof, Hofstettenstrasse 14) is open Tuesday to Sunday 10 to 17, with Wednesday until 19 and Monday closed; adult admission CHF 10. Drink'n'Draw is life drawing over a drink, held on one Wednesday evening a month (19:00 to 20:45, doors 18:30; dates on the agenda), aged 18 and over, no prior experience needed, donations welcome (Kunstmuseum Thun, Drink'n'Draw).
- Knitting and crocheting at the Thun-Panorama in the Schadaupark: Saturday 28 November 2026, 13:30 to 16:00, with further dates on the agenda. The museum describes it as knitting "in good company" or "a few rows in a relaxed atmosphere", for people looking for inspiration or just company (Thun-Panorama knitting). The Panorama itself is a 38-metre circular painting from 1814 (Interlaken Tourismus, museums).
- Thun Castle (Schlossberg 1), a medieval museum castle, is open every Sunday 13 to 16 from November to January, and daily 13 to 16 from 25 December to 10 January. It is a 10-minute walk from the station, with a lift up from the Parking City Ost car park (Thun Castle).
Small museums, a jazz night and a chocolate bar
- Tourismuseum Interlaken in the old town of Unterseen is the only Swiss museum devoted to the history of tourism, in a parsonage dating from 1630. It is open Wednesday to Sunday 9 to 18 all year (closed on public holidays), adults CHF 8, free with the Swiss Pass Travel Card or Swiss Museum Pass. The Bistro Café GOETHE on the ground floor shares the opening hours (Tourismuseum, visit).
- Kunsthaus Interlaken (Jungfraustrasse 55) is open Wednesday to Saturday 14 to 17 and Sunday 11 to 17. Entry to exhibitions is CHF 8, concerts CHF 20 to 35. The programme lists evening concerts; see the site for the next date (Kunsthaus Interlaken, prices). The site is in German, and a concert ticket means a guaranteed seat and no one expecting you to talk.
- Funky Chocolate Club (Interlaken) is listed by the tourism board with daily workshops where you make your own chocolate and take it home (Interlaken Tourismus). Ask the venue for hours and prices before you go.
- ORBIT in Wilderswil is an indoor bouldering and climbing hall for all levels, usable all year (Interlaken Tourismus). The tourism board says beginners and experienced climbers are both catered for.

First solo outings
- Easy: the funicular lunch. Ride the Harder with the end-of-season voucher and have your lunch at the Panorama Restaurant. Walk the circular route if the weather holds.
- Medium: a Thun afternoon. Take the train to Thun, stay for the Kunstmuseum, and join the knitting afternoon with a project of your own on 28 November, or the monthly Drink'n'Draw evening.
- Bold: the top of Europe. Plan the Jungfraujoch trip around a live operating check, give yourself a full day, and keep your list of must-sees to two. Coming from Lucerne, the Luzern-Interlaken Express takes around two hours according to the tourism board (Interlaken Tourismus); the Lucerne guide covers the other end.
