Belfast suits solo visitors who like a plan with a start time. Its city council runs a covered market with a daily "quiet hour", two free Victorian glasshouses and a guided tour of City Hall, and an old library and a former prison also run tours. This guide uses those fixed formats as the way in: you turn up, you are part of a small group or a calm crowd, and nobody expects a conversation. The Irish capital, Dublin, is the other island-of-Ireland guide on this site.
St George's Market and its quiet hours
St George's Market, at 12 to 20 East Bridge Street, was built between 1890 and 1896 and opens Friday to Sunday: Friday 8:00 to 14:00, Saturday 9:00 to 15:00 and Sunday 10:00 to 15:00. Belfast City Council runs a quiet hour at each: Friday and Saturday 9:00 to 10:00 and Sunday 10:00 to 11:00, when the music is turned off and noise is reduced. That is the easiest time to walk the stalls alone. The council says the Friday market dates back to 1604 and has around 200 stalls, and that "Fab Food Friday" offers lunch options from many food traders for 5.95 GBP. There is a free water refill station inside (St George's Market). Eating at a stall on your own works the way it does anywhere; the eating alone guide covers the basics.

The Ravine runs guided tours on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 14:00 and Saturdays at 11:00 (Belfast City Council).
- Botanic Gardens. The park is free and opens at 7:30. Closing times shorten with the daylight: 16:30 from 22 November to 31 December 2026 and 1 to 11 January 2027. Botanic Gardens has a rose garden and an alpine garden. Metro 8 stops at Queen's University and Metro 7 at College Park (Botanic Gardens).
