Things to Do Alone in Geneva

Geneva is easiest alone if you start at the water. The Bains des Paquis on the lakefront is a public bath with a beach, sauna and a cheap buvette, and people go on their own all year. After that, pick a small indoor stop for bad weather and one free thing.

Checked 2026-10-21. Several official Geneva sites do not expose hours, so we name places without numbers where an official page gives none.

By the water

Bains des Paquis sits on the lakefront in Les Paquis. The site says it is open every day, with times that depend on the weather. It lists open-water swimming from 30 September 2026 to 17 May 2027, sauna sessions including New Moon and Full Moon evenings, night swims (one listed for 4 November, 18:00 to 20:00), exhibitions and a poetic aperitif (Bains des Paquis).

Geneva Tourism lists beach entry at CHF 2 for adults and CHF 1 for children, with the beach open 9:00-20:00 in June to August and 10:00-18:00 in May and September, and the buvette open daily 07:00-21:30. Hammam fees differ between sources, so we give none; see the Bains' own site (geneve.com, checked 2026-10-21). Winter fondue evenings are mentioned there too.

Why it works alone: everyone is doing their own thing, you can bring a book, and swimming or the sauna needs no conversation.

Small-ticket indoor stops

Patek Philippe Museum. geneve.com lists Tuesday to Friday 14:00 to 18:00, Saturday 10:00 to 18:00, Sunday 14:00 to 18:00, and Monday is assumed closed. The official page confirms about 2,500 watches and automatons, a library of more than 8,000 works and a workbench atelier. The admission price is not confirmed (geneve.com, Patek Philippe).

Cinemas du Grutli (Rue du General-Dufour 16, edge of the Old Town) is an arthouse cinema with two rooms (196 and 59 seats), and films run in the original language with French subtitles. Tickets are CHF 15, with reductions of CHF 10, CHF 8 or CHF 5 depending on status. The box office opens 15 minutes before the first screening (Grutli). For tips on going to a cinema alone, see cinema alone.

Exhibitions hosted for MAMCO. MAMCO itself is being renovated, so we give no hours for it. Its shows are being hosted elsewhere: at the Musee Rath (Sylvia Sleigh, until 25 October 2026) and at the Saint-Antoine archaeological site, SaSA (Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige, 5 September to 15 November 2026), with free guided visits. Two guided visits are listed for 24 and 27 October at 15:00. See the MAMCO site for current hours (MAMCO).

Free, and slightly unusual

CERN Science Gateway in Meyrin is free, but you must register, and individuals can register 1 to 11 visitors. Opening hours were not confirmed, and the tram connection should be checked (CERN).

International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum. The permanent exhibition is called "Humanitarian action, here and now", with gardens, a cafe, and Sunday and afterwork events. Hours and price are unconfirmed (Red Cross Museum).
